Good to see you back comrade.

I've moved from fast-crash to 'meh' camp too. Still expecting it to speed up eventually but I can't be arsed analysing every global event wondering if this one will be the one. Got far too much shit to be getting on with to waste time watching industrial civilisation crumble around me. It'll either fast-crash or it wont, and my spectating wont do shit except keep me from doing something useful.

Keep on plodding.

charlie - The problem is you can’t decouple from the system completely. You still gotta pay property taxes, car insurance, home insurance….as so on. Of course all the little “mandatory” type expenses.

I disagree, the real problem is those are just excuses, not saying you meant it that way but for the most part people use that to rationalize not taking other steps. We still have a way to go and we'll see if we make it to mostly self sufficient before things come apart but I've heart people consistently criticize those areas where we have not detached, yet, instead of looking to those things we are doing to provide for ourselves.

I highly recommend the new Michael Bunker book Surviving Off Off-Grid (subtitle: Decolonizing the Industrial Mind). He makes no bones about his religious convictions but presents quite a few thought provoking statements.

All the best Comrade!

Awww, size is way overrated. Makes your knees and ankles hurt and slows most non-athletes down, worse for older athletes probably if you've broken bones and jammed up joints.

I'm six one and 240-50 something, and I get my life threatened, mugged, hassled, and generally disrespected all I can stand and then some. And of course, reporting that kinda stuff just gets you focused on more, not less. But you gotta admit that in a concealed carry state without a duty to retreat on you own property (both fairly new here in Missouri), it does seem like people ought to be adopting better manners. There is a reason people are more polite in rural Texas, for instance.

I never thought I would start sleeping with a 12-gauge riot gun, but I have. ...Bars on my damn windows too, but I keep a rebar cutter to get out by my fire extinguisher, also close to my bed. At least I have my own key to my home-built jail house. ...Or maybe you should call it a one-man psych rehab unit.

Whatever you call it, people sure better show up in a pretty genial mood if they are planning to stay more than a couple of minutes. It helps if they bring cash, despite all the comment here and there about its inherent value. If I get some today, I pretty much sock something tangible away somewhere those potato-stealing pussies you imagine are out to get you aren't likely to find anytime soon. I guess that might make it hell to pay for my estate's executor, but I don't officially have "dependents" anyway.

Okay Michelle, you didn't flip out and are still with me so I'll raise you one...
The problem I have with "community" is that it is made up of people that are trying to fulfill the same cultural biases that got us here in the first place. The whole parameter is skewed towards domination and control. Society on a more local basis will slow the process of destruction, but won't stop it.

Dig around and find some of Derrick Jensen"s writings (or even Youtube video). The 20 Premises of Endgame need to be taken to heart.

Not rude at all; rather, thought provoking. I might be a bit further down the road than I thought but still have along way to go. I gave up on seatbelts and stop signs in this small town I live in, and the taxman hunteth for me even as we speak. But yes indeed, due to some odd (and incredibly personally foolish) circumstances I am still tethered to the machine for food and shelter. We are closing in on debt free land, and will be able to produce much of our own food, etc at that time, like we used to do on our completely mortgaged-to-the-hilt land that we gave up. Still, I read what you post, have watched your rocket stove vids, and admired from afar, but still wonder how long you will make it alone? A damned sight longer than I will in present circumstances, for sure. I firmly believe, even still with all our failed experimenting that small community is essential to survival. Will we build that? I doubt it, but still keep moving forward. Trajectory is everything, as a good friend of mine says. We are still moving forward, even if it looks like it's microscopic movement :) But I am looking forward to the time, if I am blessed enough to see it, when I can start looking sunwise rather than clockwise.

I am interested in the reasons why your experiments in community building (ie farm help) have not worked out. would you do a blog post about it, without getting into personal details, naming names, etc? It seems you've tried a few times to get help but it just did not work out. I'm always interested in community building, as I hope to be doing it soon. I have some good friends in Texas building a small Christian Agrarian community that has been fairly successful but my husband and I aren't so much interested in moving to Texas in the desert. They have enough help to get things done, but have other challenges like extreme heat and drought killing their crops and animals, etc. I wonder how long it takes to decolonize the mind from the tyranny of the clock? I will have to practice saying "I've got forever" as well :)

You know, I'm shocked the average joe-six-pack hasn't realized how fucked over he is. TPTB have in-fact sold them down the river, and profited from it...as always.
Tired is a good term. For me it's Frustration. The knowledge that everyday I still gotta go "slobber-the-knob-of-the-man". That is if you can even find a knob in today's job market. Just to pay for shit I really don't want to pay for, and the shit I do get is outrageous. For godsakes a bag of corn is $10, you gotta be kiddin', right?
The whole system is jacked, let's overturn this apple cart already and move on.
I can't believe this hasn't all imploded by now, but somehow the band keeps playing.
Sheesh, I really am sick of this shit......
